Welcome! As a start to building a relationship with a trusted cattery, it is always important to know the faces behind it, so here is an in depth introduction to our family, and a little bit about Crystal Star cattery and how it came to exist! :)
"What is Crystal Star like?"
Crystal Star is a small, home-based cattery specializing in Maine coons. We are located in Fairview, Oregon, just near Portland. The cattery is run by a small family who all grew up with cats and other animals, and ever since getting our first Maine coon--Archie--absolutely fell in love with the breed.
We have been breeding Maine coons for nearly 4 years, but I, the main face behind Crystal star, have had previous experience with breeding German Shepherds and French bulldogs. Having this experience, immediately drew me to Maine coons and their absolutely sweetest, dog-like personality!
The cattery is purely a hobby due to our undying love for the breed, and the wish to be able to share the experience of owning such loving cats with others, and is in no way viewed as a business, but simply a part of our family.
"Who is the family behind the cattery?"
Crystal Star was originally my idea, but it would never be able to exist without the support of my entire family.
The Crystal Star family consists of four members, me; Yelena, my husband; Aleksander, and my daughters; Alexa and Luka, however it has long grown to expand with every new home each of our kittens go to!
We are always so happy to see the updates as every kitten grows, and are always ready to answer any questions! Even if you are not yet a part of our family, we are always happy to answer anything you'd like to know so please don't hesitate to contact us!
"Where and how are your cats raised?"
All of our cats are raised as a part of the family in our home. Each kitten is raised with constant love and attention from each family member. They have long taken over our entire home, with food bowls, scratchers, cat trees, litterboxes and toys all over the house, with multiple rooms dedicated just to them even though they always love to sleep in our beds together and spending the evenings in the living room with us!
Welcome inside!
Like we mentioned earlier, we have multiple rooms dedicated to our cats outside of them all being always roaming around the entire home.
Welcome to our first room, the Queen quarters! This is the room our queens typically spend the night in when they aren't roaming around and away from the boys.
This room currently includes five litterboxes, 3 automatic and 2 normal for the girls to choose their preferred, a cat wall and cat wheel, many toys and scratchers, a tv, multiple tall cat trees and a three story cage to lounge, a food area as well as a built in outdoor catio that they get to enjoy in the summertime!
The mamas and their kittens get to enjoy their own room while they grow to not get cramped inside the queens quarters and to avoid having kittens unnecessarily interact with too many cats. This room currently has four cat trees, five litterboxes, 3 automatic and 2 normal as well, a cat wheel, food area and many toys and scratchers. We also have a tv to help kittens get used to louder noises better from a young age, and a heater incase of any super cold winters along side our AC.
While our kings who mainly roam around the house or spend their day with us in our rooms don't have their own catios, they very much enjoy going on walks :)
